Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and allows multiple withdrawals from a single vial. It is the standard solvent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides in the laboratory.

Multi-draw solvent vial for preparing peptide working solutions. Handle with sterile technique, ideally in a laminar-flow hood or on a clean bench: wipe the septum and use a fresh sterile syringe for each transfer, dispensing the solvent slowly down the inner wall of the peptide vial, without agitation. Record the lot number and date of first puncture on the label and store the opened vial at 2–8 °C.
